A person was thrown and trampled by a mule at the Hoosier National Forest

HELTONVILLE – Emergency personnel responded to the Hoosier National Forest Friday evening after a person riding a mule was thrown and then trampled by the animal.

Emergency crews were alerted to the incident at 5:17 p.m. Friday on Trail 7, near Heltonville.

The injured person suffered possible neck and spine fractures. The person was transported by emergency personnel from Pleasant Run Volunteer Fire Department first responder and an IU LifeLine ambulance crew from the trail to a landing zone and was airlifted to the University of Louisville Hospital for treatment

Also assisting at the scene were Indiana Conservation officers and Hoosier National Forest law enforcement officers and Lawrence County Sherriff’s Department deputies.
