Bedford man arrested after striking teen with Bluetooth speaker

BEDFORD – A Bedford man was arrested after Bedford Police officers responded to a report of a man striking a child in the 600 block of H Street on April 13, 2023.

A neighbor reported they witnessed 39-year-old Timothy Reynold smack a teenage male with a large carrying case in the head.

When police arrived just after 7:26 a.m. they spoke to the caller who told police Reynolds was also swearing at the child and that it was a recurring issue.

She told police she went to get her phone to report the incident and Reynolds grabbed her arm causing pain. She told police she didn’t want to pursue charges but she did want police to stop Reynolds from injuring the children.

Reynolds had left the scene before officers arrived.

The teen’s mother told police that Reynolds and the teen had been fighting over a lighter that had gotten broken in the basement of the home. The woman stated Reynolds often overreacts to everything and screams and yells when he does. Spires asked what had happened to the lighter, and one of the children told Reynolds the lighter fell on the floor and broke. Reynold’s anger and screaming escalated and he attempted to take the teen’s phone. She claimed they “went after each other” and the fight moved outside. Reynolds threw the teen against a vehicle and then pushed the teen to the ground in an attempt to take the teen’s phone. As the teen was getting off the ground, Reynolds allegedly hit the teen in the head with a big Bluetooth speaker and that is when the neighbor intervened.

The teen suffered a bruise on the right side of his face at his hairline.

The Department of Child Services was contacted.

Police later spoke to Reynolds by phone and he told police the teen was “getting an attitude” with him and he took the teen’s phone. The teen then followed him to the driveway in an attempt to retrieve the phone. Reynolds admitted to pushing the teen against the truck in an attempt to calm the teen down.

Reynolds then reported “things went crazy” and the neighbor got involved. Reynolds stated, “It never got more physical than what I just said”.

He denied hitting the teen in the head but then said he may have swung but he was “just trying to get control of the situation and to get the teen off of him”.

The information was forwarded to the Lawrence County Prosecutor’s Office and a warrant was issued for Reynolds’s arrest on a charge of domestic battery causing injury.
