Woman strikes 13-year-old female and is arrested

BEDFORD – A Bedford woman is facing domestic battery charges after Lawrence County Sheriff’s Department deputies responded to an incident on Wednesday, May 10th.

According to police, Central Dispatch received a call from a female at 8:43 p.m. reporting a 13-year-old female had shown up at her home in the 700 block of Peerless Road bloody and beaten up.

When deputies arrived they spoke to the caller and the teen.

Lakesha Cobb

The teen told police she had gotten into a fight with 31-year-old Lakesha Cobb at her grandfather’s home in the 200 block of Rawlins Mill Road. The victim and Cobb were the only two at the home when the physical altercation happened.

The teen said Cobb had grabbed her by the hair and took her to the ground. She then put her knee on the teen’s neck and upper chest making it hard to breathe. Cobb then allegedly slapped the teen in the head. The teen said she just kept telling Cobb to get off of her and to stop. Cobb finally got off the teen and walked to the home on Peerless Road and asked for help.

The Indiana Department of Child Services and a Lawrence County Fire Territory ambulance were notified and requested to respond to the scene.

The child was medically cleared and released to the care of her grandmother.

Officers then responded to a home at 307 Farmers Street and detained Cobb on charges of strangulation, domestic battery, and domestic battery on a minor under the age of 14.
