Horses and rabbits perish from smoke inhalation

CANNELBURG – Earlier today, firefighters from the Cannelburg Fire Department responded to a report of a barn on fire, after hearing a loud boom.

Upon arrival, firefighters found heavy smoke and a small fire. That small fire rapidly grew within minutes.

Homeowners and neighbors were able to access the stalls where several horses were kept, and released them, saving a few.

Crews battled and extinguished the blaze. Despite the efforts of releasing them, three horses and a few rabbits died due to possible smoke inhalation.

Crews were on the scene for approximately 2 hours.
