The first two programs you’ll read about are the Homeownership Program and the HOME Homebuyer Program.  Both of these programs focus on building wealth through homeownership, a large part of the American Dream.

The Homeownership Program offers two forms of financial assistance to qualified first-time (and some repeat) homebuyers. Down Payment Assistance of up to 6% is available to allow purchasers to get to the closing table sooner than otherwise possible.  And a Mortgage Credit Certificate can be paired with 3.5% Down Payment Assistance and a qualifying loan to provide financial relief by reducing the buyer’s federal income tax.

The HOME Homebuyer Program provides funding, nearly $2.5 million this year, directly to nonprofit organizations for the construction of new affordable, for-purchase homes.  By granting funds directly to these nonprofits, IHCDA is able to provide additional support for homeownership at attainable prices throughout the state.
