State of Indiana agencies collect 26,563 cans for community food pantries

INDIANA – The votes are in, and the judges have spoken – so now, here is the moment you’ve been waiting for:

In total, State of Indiana agencies collected an outstanding 26,563 cans for community food pantries. And teams submitted 54 unique Canstructions to the panel of judges, consisting of the Governor’s Office, the Lieutenant Governor’s Office, INSPD Director Matthew Brown, and a representative from Second Helpings.

BEST STRUCTURE

Several honorable mentions battled it out for the 2023 Canstruction “Best Structure” award. Notably, DCS Marion County Westside Warriors with Cowboy Wes, INDOT Greenfield District with the snowplow, FSSA 211 with “A Beacon of Hope” Lighthouse, INSPD with the IndiCANa Statehouse, DOR Pit Crew with the IMS, and BMV Central Office with the Mystery Machine.

But the winner of the 2023 “Best Structure” award is the Department of Correction Wabash Valley Correctional Facility with their intricate “Road to Re-entry” bus and the State Fair Commission with their impressive ceiling-high pig.

MOST CANS COLLECTED

The runners-up for “Most Cans Collected” are INDOT Greenfield District with 2,017 cans and the Indiana State Fair Commission with 1,935 cans. But Canstruction 2023’s “Most Cans Collected” award goes to the Department of Corrections Wabash County Correctional Facility  “Road to Re-entry” with 2,779 cans collected in just two weeks!

Using canned goods, art supplies, and teamwork, these teams got creative and paid tribute to Hoosier landmarks, state initiatives, pop culture, and much more.

Participating agencies included the Alcohol & Tobacco Commission, 15 teams from the Bureau of Motor Vehicles, nine teams from the Department of Child Services, the Department of Natural Resources, four teams from the Department of Correction, the Department of Revenue, the Department of Workforce Development, nine teams from Family & Social Services Administration, Hoosier Lottery, Indiana Archives & Records Administration, Indiana Department of Health, Indiana Department of Homeland Security, Indiana Department of Insurance, three teams from Indiana Department of Transportation, Indiana Office of Technology, Indiana State Personnel Department, Indiana State Department of Toxicology, Indiana State Police, and the State Fair Commission.
