City of Mitchell approves amendment to the speed limit ordinance along Rabbitsville Road

MITCHELL – During the City of Mitchell regular monthly meeting, Mayor Nathan Jenkins revisited the speed limit change set in place during the November meeting, creating an amendment to the ordinance to include an additional roadway.

Previously, the council voted to approve the speed limit along the following roadways:

  • North 9th Street, between Main Street and Hancock Avenue
  • Rabbitsville Road, between Hancock Avenue and Doc Hamilton Boulevard
  • Warren Street from the railroad tracks/5th Street to Meridian Road
  • Brook Street from the Mitchell Cemetery to the railroad tracks
  • 12th Street from Brook Street to Hancock Avenue
  • Main Street from the railroad track to Lehigh/County Road 100 E

Included within the amendment of the ordinance, Rabbitsville Road will be extended past Doc Hamilton Boulevard to Burton Lane. Following this, Rabbitsville Road will be 20 m.p.h. from Hancock Avenue to Burton Lane, effective immediately.

The extension of Rabbitsville Road will include the 20 m.p.h. speed limit

Mayor Jenkins received input from community members to extend the speed limit change to go up to Burton Lane, to help vehicles slow down coming into town.
