Bedford Police Department announced several personnel changes

BEDFORD – Several moves were made in the Bedford Police Department during the Bedford Board of Works meeting Monday afternoon.

Major Danny Irwin

Major Danny Irwin, who has served the City of Bedford for more than 25 years, announced his retirement to Chief Terry Moore in a letter on August, 9th 2022. His last day on the force was November 11th, 2022.

Following the retirement, Chief Moore had to fill the vacancy for the Major position, and made the following promotions be made to fill out the vacancies:

  • Captain Blake Wade to Major
  • Sergeant Clint Swanson to Captain
  • Officer Toby Gerkin to Sergeant

These promotions will be placed on a six-month probationary period to determine the ability of each officer in their roles.

Additionally, two officers who were on a six-month probationary period were approved to be moved to permanent status:

  • Captain Jesse Crane to Major
  • Sergeant Chase Hamilton to Captain

BPD also added another officer, James Jones, who was sworn in during the Board of Works meeting and will continue his training at the Indiana Law Enforcement Academy.
