Four Burris Elementary School fourth graders to be featured on Talk of the Town for their Spooky Story

Adalyn Griffin, Madi Sanders, Mylee Jones, and Austin Patton worked together to create a spooky story from scratch during a class segment, where they worked together to write, record the story, and add in sound effects using Soundtrap for Education and pieced it together to be featured on 1340 AM WBIW. Their finished product was then named “The Haunted Hotel.”

“Doing the story was special to me because we don’t always get to do stuff like this at school. Writing the story was different but a cool different, a good different,” Adalyn said.

“It was fun to work on the story together, and come up with ideas,” said Austin.

“We had to work with each other and put our ideas together, but also have it make sense,” Madi said.

“I got the ideas for our story from a couple of the movies I have watched. It was fun to work on this and have a chance to have it on the radio,” said Mylee.

Coming up with a game plan for the class each year can open up the idea of other platforms and projects the students get to work on, and with the continued efforts of Mrs. Whitney Reed, the students were able to piece it all together.

“I went to a professional development seminar at Indiana University two summers ago, and I have wanted to use the website for the students,” said Mrs. Reed. “This website can do podcasts, and music, and is user-friendly. So we decided to have them write a story and have it ready by Halloween, and allow them to share their product with the world.”

Working with COSMOS Director Apryl Kidd, and Ad-Venture Media President Holly Davis, the story will air on WBIW AM 1340 Talk of the Town program on Monday, October 31st at 8:30 a.m.
