Seymour woman traveling too fast crashes into an abandoned house

MITCHELL– A Seymour woman who said she was traveling too fast crashed her car into an abandoned house Saturday evening.

The accident was reported at 6:57 p.m. on US 50 West in Spicevalley Township.

According to a Lawrence County Sheriff’s Department report, 50-year-old Stephanie Johnson had been drinking and was traveling southwest on US 50. She told police she was traveling “too fast” and “lost control” of her 2007 Dodge Caliber. She drove off the north side of the road, struck a small tree, and then struck an abandoned home. Police say the vehicle went halfway under the home.

Johnson was transported by an IU LifeLine ambulance to St. Vincent Dunn Hospital for a medical evaluation. Police say Johnson was not injured in the crash.

Damages were estimated from $10,001 to $25,000. The vehicle was towed by Jackson Heavy Haul.
