North Daviess blows away BNL

BNL’s Jayden Kemp and the Stars suffered a 5-0 setback at North Daviess on Monday.

ELNORA – An ill win, and North Daviess, blew away Bedford North Lawrence during boys high school tennis action on Monday afternoon.

The Cougars adjusted to the weather conditions while posting a 5-0 victory. BNL managed only one game on the three singles courts and fell to 3-6.

“It was very windy,” BNL coach Chris Kurtz said. “North Daviess executed its game plan and shots very well, we did not. In fact, we rarely get wind, and had no plan. Cody (East, BNL’s assistant) and I did try to coach them through the types of shots to hit, and placement, but sometimes you just have to experience to learn, I guess.

“We did not adjust to the elements and were not competitive, which is a bit disappointing. We got down early on all five courts, and as a team did not show the fight through adversity that I hope becomes a program signature.”

The Stars were dominated in singles as Jaylen Mullin swept Graham Turner 6-0, 6-0 at No.1, Blake Huff puffed past Gavin Baker 6-0, 6-0 at No.2, and Brycen Skinner stopped Isaac Bridges 6-1, 6-0 at No.3.

In doubles, Colin Kemp and Brocklin Byrer bounced Jayden Kemp and Drew Stephenson 6-2, 6-1 at No.1. Cam Sassano and Max Toy topped Nate Pemberton and Carter Kimmel 6-2, 6-3 at No.2.

BNL will visit Seymour on Thursday.
