Orleans Fire Department receives grants and looking for new members

ORLEANS – The Orleans Fire Department has recently obtained numerous grants for the year 2022 from different area organizations.

The first grant was from Hoosier Uplands for $ 7,324.00 for new scene lighting for both apparatuses. They will now replace the old halogen lights and portable scene lights for the safety of emergency personnel on emergency scenes.

The second grant was from the Orange County Community Foundation for the amount of $1,906.00 for radio headsets for all 4 of our emergency vehicles. These are used so the truck operator and the incident commander can hear all of the radio communications more clearly and more efficiently while on an emergency scene.

The third grant was from Enbridge for the amount of $7,500.00, this grant was put towards wildland personal protection equipment for all of the department members so they have the correct equipment while fighting wildland fires on private and government land.

The department’s fourth and final grant was received from Orange County REMC in the amount of $ 1,000.00 for the purchase of a hose/SCBA cylinder storage rack. This will help keep all of the department’s spare fire hoses and air bottles more organized and easily stored.

All four of these grant amounts come to a total of $17,730.00.

“We as the Orleans Fire Department appreciate each and every organization and its members for their generous contributions and donations to the Orleans Fire Department,” said Fire Department Deputy Chief Michael Beasley. “This equipment will be put towards the safety of our members so they can perform their tasks more efficiently and safer for the citizens and also keep our equipment stored much better and more accessible for the members to get to if need be. We can not express how much we appreciate these awesome organizations and all of the support they have for the emergency services organizations. This means a lot to the members of the Orleans Fire Department and we can’t thank them enough for their generosity and their time looking over our applications.”
