Stars slip past Castle in scrimmage

INDIANAPOLIS – Bedford North Lawrence conquered Castle 34-30 during scrimmage action at the Fairgrounds Coliseum on Wednesday.

Chloe Spreen paced the Stars with 12 points while Mallory Pride added 9 points and 8 rebounds. BNL, which played the contest as part of pregame action prior to the Indiana Fever game with Phoenix, struggled with Castle’s pressure and intensity.

“We didn’t play well, but Castle played really well,” BNL coach Jeff Allen said. “They competed, and we didn’t do that. We kind of went through the motions. It’s summer and I get that, but I was a little upset with how we approached the game. The kids know that.”

Karsyn Norman added 4 points and 3 steals, Madisyn Bailey had 4 points, Emma Brown totaled 3 points and 3 steals, and Katie Baumgart scored two points. The game was contested in two 20-minute halves with a running clock.

BNL (4-0 this month) will host a scrimmage next week, facing Center Grove on Thursday at BNL Fieldhouse. The scrimmage with Evansville North on Tuesday has been cancelled, and BNL is seeking a replacement opponent.
