BEDFORD – Bedford North Lawrence is ranked No.1 in Class 4A in the latest Indiana Coaches of Girls Sports Association state poll.

The Stars (15-1) topped the rankings with three first-place votes and 55 total points. They were followed by Noblesville (14-3), Franklin (17-1), Homestead (13-1) and previously top-ranked Crown Point (13-2). BNL is ranked No.1 for the first time since the 2013-14 season.

BNL is ranked No.2 in the Indiana Basketball Coaches Association poll, which does not divide by classes. The Stars are undefeated against state competition, with the lone loss against Illinois power Fremd in the one-day shootout at Brownsburg on Nov. 27.

“I’ll be happy if we’re No.1 at the end of February,” BNL coach Jeff Allen said. “I’m really happy for the girls. It’s a testament to how hard they’ve worked, how hard they play and how well they have played together.

“I don’t know if it adds more pressure because we focus on the task at hand, which is the next team in front of us. It definitely motivates the opponent, but we’ll just go about our business. But it is a nice tribute to these kids, so I’m happy for them. Hopefully we can continue to be successful.”

The Stars will visit No.13 Castle (12-3) on Saturday, then host No.14 Columbus East (12-3) in a showdown for the Hoosier Hills Conference lead on Tuesday.
