Summer Orleans Homecoming event scheduled for July

ORLEANS – Although the 2021 edition of the Dogwood Festival was canceled, Orleans Chamber of Commerce Executive Director Robert Henderson announced plans are in the works for a Summer Orleans Homecoming type event this July.

Henderson said in a brief press release that while organizers are still working out the finer details the special community event is set for downtown the week of July 4th.

The Orleans American Legion will be sponsoring a carnival (Brady Amusements) which will run July 6-9. Both the local Chamber and Legion have been long-time community partners and are helping to spearhead the event.

Tentative kick-off events for the weekend of the 4th include live entertainment and a car show on the historic town square. Other special events and activities are being planned for that week and will be announced in the weeks to come.

All events will be held outdoors and centered in and around Congress Square.

Henderson hopes the event will be somewhat reminiscent of days past when the annual Orleans American Legion Homecoming was held each and every summer downtown.

“This was a beloved community tradition for many years. We want this to be a real old-fashioned patriotic type event for the community as a whole,” Henderson added. “And after the many months of dealing with the pandemic, we are all more than ready to come together and celebrate.”
