Santa Stars Bringing Holiday Cheer To Local Families

(BEDFORD) – Santa Stars, a group of approximately 12 Bedford North Lawrence High School students, is trying to bring holiday cheer to local families this Christmas.

The program was started in 2017 by Bedford North Lawrence High School student Ethan Stanley when he decided that instead of him receiving any Christmas presents that year, he would give his Christmas to those without.

Santa Stars are working to provide a Christmas for all families in Lawrence County.

This is a completely student-led program. The program’s goal is for all families have a Christmas this year.

Currently, BNLHS students are contacting area companies for donations. The deadline for donations is November 30 so students can start shopping on December 1.

The students do not know the names of the family’s they are helping.

Last year, the group raised about $5,000 and at least 13 families were helped through their efforts. The goal is to raise approximately $10,000 to help more families than before.

BNLHS student Colton Girgis is one of this year’s organizers of Santa Stars

“This year, we are going to have to work extra hard. With COVID-19 we realize companies are having a difficult time themselves. The students working on this project know that they may get quite a few of “No’s” this year because of the financial impact left on local businesses,” said Colton Girgis, one of this year’s organizers.

“I helped to choose these individual students because of the drive they have to help and get things done,” said Girgis.

Anyone wishing to help can mail donations with a note on the envelope to “Santa Stars” attention Amy Jahns’s 595 Stars Blvd. Bedford, Indiana 47421.
