About the Project

Recognizing a need for increased recycling in rural areas of southern Indiana, Rumpke received a $175,000 grant from the Indiana Department of Environmental Management (IDEM) to expand its Medora Recycling Center. The expansion includes a larger tipping floor to accept recyclables, push walls to better contain material and a sizeable enclosure. Rumpke invested an additional $175,000 in the project.

The recycling center currently processes 8,000 tons of recyclables annually, collected from residential curbside and drop-off box programs and commercial customers within a 75 mile radius around the facility. The expanded facility has the capacity to manage approximately 12,000 tons each year.

These updates are key as work continues to promote and increase recycling services in southern Indiana.
