Perry Township Volunteer Fire/EMS Responds to 181 Calls from September 2019 to September 2020

(SPRINGVILLE) – Perry Township Volunteer Fire/EMS Inc. was founded in 1967.

Located in the heart of Springville, the fire station is located at 198 Brick Street.

Perry currently has an ISO rating of 7, this is used by insurance companies to help determine rates for homeowners.

Perry Township Volunteer Fire/EMS Inc. provides fire and EMS services for Springville and surrounding townships. From September 1, 2019, to September 17, 2020, they have responded to a total of 181 calls, 25 of which were fire service related and 156 EMS related runs. Perry also assisted 3 neighboring departments with mutual aid on 27 runs.

Perry Twp. Fire Department responded to a recent garage fire.

“Perry Township has been working to make some much-needed improvements to our station and getting some new equipment to help the fire department better serve their residents,” said Chief Jessica Voorhies. “If it weren’t for the support from the community, these things wouldn’t be possible.”

Perry Township Volunteer Fire/EMS trains at a local quarry to practice their EMS and rescue skills.

Voorhies was elected as fire chief last year. She is the first female elected to this position in Lawrence county.

“The first year has been a big learning curve and I hope to continue to learn and grow in this position. I hope to continue to make improvements to our station and vehicles and to grow our volunteer numbers,” she added.

Volunteer fire departments across the United States are having trouble getting volunteers to fill the ranks as the demands on emergency personnel have increased. The department is seeking individuals who would like to serve their community.
