Man Killed in Motorcycle Accident

(ANDERSON) – An Anderson man was killed Tuesday morning in a motorcycle crash, says Indiana State Police.

Chase Kumkoski, 23, was driving his motorcycle when he ran through a red light, and crashed into a Chevrolet Trailblazer, driven by Ofelia Rangel, 52, of Anderson.

Police say the motorcycle burst into flames on impact. Two people who witnessed the crash ran over to get Kumkoski away from the fire. In doing so, one of the individuals was burned on their arms and legs.

The Madison County Coroner pronounced Kumkoski dead at the scene. Rangel was taken to St. Vincent Hospital in Anderson with non-life threatening injuries.

ISP says Kumkoski was wearing a helmet, but it flew off his head following the initial impact. Speed and reckless driving were contributors to the crash.
