Clarence Lester Kirkman, 93, of Greencastle, formerly of Bedford, died Wednesday, December 13, 2017 in Greencastle.
Born December 10, 1924, in Lawrence Co., he was the son of Clarence B. and Clara E. (Wright) Kirkman. He married Helen JoAnn Moore on September 11, 1946 and she preceded him in death on July 8, 2004. He later married Winnie F. Strunk on January 12, 2005 and she preceded him in death on July 3, 2012. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army serving during WW II where he was awarded the bronze star. He retired as a truck driver for Sims Motor Transport in 1981. He was a member of Eagles Lodge #654, American Legion Gillen Post #33, and a former member of V.F.W.
Survivors include two sons, Dwight L. Kirkman, of Oolitic, and Barry D. Kirkman, and wife, Karen, of Bedford; four
daughters, Diane Claycomb, Debra Vester and husband, Paul, all of Oolitic, Denise Foulk and husband, Tom, of
Florida, Dee Duncan and husband Harry, of Bedford; twelve grandchildren; six great grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents, both wives, five sisters, and a son, Lester David Kirkman.
A memorial service will be at 10 a.m. on Saturday, December 16th in the Elmwood Chapel of the Day & Carter
Mortuary with John Lee officiating. Visitation will be from 9 a.m. until the hour of service on Saturday with military
rites accorded by members of Gillen Post #33 American Legion.

Nancy K. Pace, 72, of Bedford, died Thursday at I.U. Health Hospice House.

Betty Jean Salon – Odon
September 30, 1939 – December 13, 2017
Betty Jean Salmon, 77, Odon, formally of Shoals, passed away at her residence on December 13, 2017 at 2:08 p.m.
She was born September 30, 1939 in Martin County to Samuel Roscoe and Minnie Viola (Probasco) Butler. SHe married Delbert Ray Salmon on January 26, 1959 and he preceded her in death on May 26, 2011.
She was a homemaker and was baptized by the Church of Christ in Elnora.
Seven children survive, Rosetta Hopper, of Odon, Ray Dean Salmon (Mary Jo Mullins) of Odon, Sandra Arthur, of Odon, Anita (Dave) Letterman, of Shoals, Roger Salmon (Amy) of Loogootee, Bonny Salmon, of Odon and Synthia Blevins, of Odon; two sisters Ruth Holman, of Shoals and Joan Crowe of French Lick; two brothers Samuel Butler of French Lick, Leroy Butler, of Tennessee; 30 grandchildren and many great grandchildren,,
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, one son, Delbert Lee Salmon Sr., son-in-law Kenny Arthur; two sisters Elsie Butler and Fern Taylor; a brother Roscoe Butler; two grandchildren Steven Holt and Anthony Steven Salmon; two great-great grandchildren Mackenzie Salmon and Caden Crisp.
Visitation will be Saturday, December 16, 2017 at 11 a.m. at the Queen-Lee Chapel in Shoals with a funeral service to follow at 1 p.m. with Pastor Dan Ford officiating. Burial will follow in the Spring Hill Cemetery.
The Queen-Lee Chapel of the Thorne-George Family Funeral Homes is in charge of the arrangements.
