Mary Ellen (New) Smoot – Oolitic
April 13, 1933 – August 10, 2016
Mary Ellen New Smoot, 83, of Oolitic, died at 8:30 pm on Wednesday, August 10, 2016 at her residence.
Born April 13, 1933, in Flossie, KY, she was the daughter of Harley Virgle and Myra (Staley) New. She first married Jimmie Lovell. She later married Lloyd “Bud” Smoot on April 11, 1970 and he preceded her in death on July 26, 1991. She was a member of the Valley Mission Church of the Nazarene. She was a production line worker for RCA/Thomson Consumer Electronics retiring in 1993 after twenty-nine years.
Survivors include two daughters, Linda L. Lovell and her significant other, Terry Graves, and Carolyn S. Stigall and husband, Kim; four step-sons, Dennis Smoot and wife, Percilla, Gerald Smoot and wife, Peggy, Larry Smoot and wife, Terri, and Mark Smoot and wife, Delores; four sisters, Pauline Hammond, Duetta Merritt, Betty Prather, and Cathy Morrow; three grandchildren, Chad Stigall and wife, Kelly, Darren Stigall and Whitney Woerner and husband, Emerson; nine step-grandchildren; several great grandchildren and great great grandchildren; and close friends, Mary Ellen Sowders, Charlie and Sheila Luther, and Bill and Beth Lewis. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, three sisters, Hazel Branscum, Ruby Jean Cassada and Magdalene New; two brothers, Ronald and Raymond New.
Funeral services will be conducted at 11 am on Monday, August 15th in the Elmwood Chapel of the Day & Carter Mortuary. Burial will follow in Green Hill Cemetery. Visitation will be from Noon to 6 pm on Sunday, August 14th and from 10 am until the hour of service on Monday, August 15th at the Day & Carter Mortuary.

Orville Wayne Prince – Heltonville

Orville Wayne Prince, 61, of Heltonville, passed away August 9, 2016, at Indiana University Health Hospice House in Bloomington.
Born August 10, 1954, in Scottsburg, he was the son of Orville and Nana Lea (Eldridge) Prince. He was married to Debbra Leona Mosier. Orville had been employed at Steeltech Industrial Fabricating, and he loved the outdoors.
Survivors include his wife, Debbra L. Prince of Bedford; daughters, Twila Lea Kinnett of Bloomington, Jody Renee Hardy of Mitchell; mother, Nana Lea Poole of Bedford; grandchildren, Bristen Edward Prince, Haley Briana Vincent, and Jaden Wayne Vincent; great grandson, Brevon Edward Prince; siblings, Larry Prince of Dudleytown, Ronnie Prince of Florida, Renee Quinn of Bedford; several nieces and nephews
His father and sister, Glenda Staley, preceded him in death.
Cremation was chosen and a celebration of life will be at a later date.

Joan Lee Earl – Mitchell
Joan Lee Earl, 81, of Mitchell, passed away Tuesday, August 9, 2016, at Indiana University Health Bloomington Hospital.
Born March 5, 1935, in Cynthiana, Kentucky, she was the daughter of Larkin Bell and Anna Frances (Guthrie) Long. She married Claude V. Earl March 13, 1953, and he preceded her in death September 18, 2014. Joan was employed many years in home health care. She was a member of Smedley Church of Christ, a 1953 graduate of Shawswick High School, and a member of the Daughters of the American Revolution.
Survivors include her children, David Martin Earl of Mitchell, Douglas (Jana) Earl of Mitchell, Lea Angela “Angie” (Adrian) Slaughter of Mitchell; grandchildren, Mikel (Kim) Earl, Jason (Lesley) Slaughter, Jamie (A.J.) Johnson, Jodie (Kyle) Endris, Lindsay (Nick) Doub, Tyler (Candie) Earl, Evan (Nikki) Earl; 12 great grandchildren
Her parents and husband preceded her in death
Funeral service will be at 4 p.m. Saturday, August 13, in the Memorial Chapel of Chastain Funeral Home & Cremation Center with Brother Paul Guthrie officiating. Burial will be in Talbott Cemetery. Friends may call from 1 p.m. until the service on Saturday at the funeral home.
Casketbearers will be grandsons.
