(BEDFORD) – A special judge has been appointed in the lawsuit for North Lawrence Parents Group against North Lawrence Community Schools.
The Honorable Christine Talley from Monroe County Circuit Court III has been appointed to hear the case.
On February 4th the North Lawrence Parents Group filed a lawsuit against the North Lawrence Community Schools asking for:
- A declaratory judgment that the Defendant violated the Open Door Law as set forth in I.C. 5-14-1.5;
- Injunction relief voiding the final vote on school consolidation taken on January 6, 2020.
- Injunction relief enjoining Defendant from acting on the school consolidation until the matter has been given substantial reconsideration in a process that complies with I.C. 5-14-1.5. and
- Attorney fees.
The appointment of this special judge is not included in the other two court cases and lawsuit regarding the Public Access Counselor’s opinion that North Lawrence Community Schools violated the Open Door Law. The lawsuit involves James Evans, Deanna Ford, Jerry Ford, Gerald Hill, and Jason Johnson. North Lawrence Community Schools is requesting a declaratory judgment in the case.
WBIW contacted the Public Access Counselor last week who stated they have forwarded the case information to the Indiana State Attorney General’s Office for review, however, their agency will not be taking any other action. The Indiana Attorney General’s Office told WBIW they do not comment on possible litigation.
The North Lawrence Community Schools have not released the Visionary Committee member names and/or minutes requested by WBIW.
Deanna and Jerry Ford have retained Glen Koch II from Martinsville, Indiana to represent them in the court case for Declaratory judgment. North Lawrence Parents Group Ltd. is being represented by Alexander W. Robbins Law Offices of Bedford and Jacob A Ahler Law Office of Rensselaer, Indiana.
