Orange County 4-H to kick off national 4-H Week with community event

ORANGE COUNTY — Orange County 4-H is getting ready to kick off another year of projects, experiences, friendships and opportunities with its annual 4-H Kickoff on Monday, October 5.

The free event will be held from 6 to 8 p.m. at the Orange County Community Center located at 1075 N Sandy Hook Rd Ste 2, Paoli, and will give families an opportunity to learn more about what Orange County 4-H has to offer.

This year’s theme is “Build Your Board. Build Your Year,” using a charcuterie board as a fun way to look at the different pieces that make up a 4-H experience.

Just like building a charcuterie board, 4-H members get to choose what they put into their year. Projects represent the “meat and cheese,” experiences are the “fruit,” leadership and service are the “sweets,” clubs and community are the “crackers,” friendships and memories are the “honey,” and taking on challenges and trying something new represents the “olives.”

The kickoff is a chance for youth and families to come see what 4-H has to offer and begin building their own 4-H experience for the coming year.

Giving Back to the Community

This year’s kickoff will also include a special opportunity to give back.

As a way of thanking the community for its support of the Orange County 4-H program, donations will be collected for the Orange County Humane Society during the event.

The Humane Society has identified soft cat and kitten food and kitty litter as some of its greatest needs.

Community members attending the kickoff are encouraged to bring a donation and help local 4-H members give back to another organization serving the Orange County community.

Go Green for 4-H Week

The kickoff also falls on Monday of National 4-H Week, which runs October 4-10.

Monday is designated as a “Go Green” day, encouraging 4-H youth and supporters across the country to show their 4-H spirit by wearing green hats, clothing, face paint or anything else green.

Orange County 4-H is inviting local youth and supporters to join in and help “paint the nation green” while celebrating the start of another year of 4-H.

With a free evening of information, activities, community giving and plenty of 4-H spirit, the kickoff offers Orange County families a chance to see how they can build their board and build their year through 4-H.
