VINCENNES — An 18-year-old woman has died following a house fire on North 11th Street in Vincennes, and local authorities have since taken a suspect into custody on arson and murder charges.
The Marion County Coroner’s Office identified the victim as Aileese Tucker.
Aileese Tucker was a member of the Class of 2026 who graduated in May at Lincoln High School.
First responders were dispatched to the 1200 block of North 11th Street around 10 p.m. on Monday after receiving reports of a home engulfed in flames and witnesses hearing an explosion.
Firefighters rescued Tucker from the rear of the burning residence, owned by local resident Troy Pickel. EMS personnel administered emergency lifesaving care at the scene before transporting her to Good Samaritan Hospital in Vincennes. Due to the severity of her injuries, she was subsequently airlifted to Eskenazi Hospital in Indianapolis, where she passed away.
Following a joint investigation by the Vincennes Fire Department, the Vincennes Police Department, and the Indiana State Fire Marshal’s Office (under the Indiana Department of Homeland Security), authorities arrested 37-year-old Shane Michael Carie of Vincennes in connection with the fatal blaze.
Carie faces formal charges of murder and arson and is currently held without bond at the Knox County Jail.
