INDIANA — The American Red Cross is calling on Indiana residents to schedule appointments to donate blood or platelets this autumn to ensure hospitals maintain a stable supply for patient care.
Highlighting September as National Preparedness Month, officials emphasized that maintaining a robust blood inventory is critical for responding to unexpected emergencies, ranging from residential fires to major natural disasters. Nationally, the organization distributes more than 6.5 million blood products annually to healthcare facilities.
Donor Perks and Special Promotions
To encourage steady appointments through the coming weeks, the Red Cross is offering special incentives for participating donors:
- $15 E-Gift Card: Anyone who donates blood or platelets between Sept. 21 and Oct. 18, 2026, will receive a $15 e-gift card to a merchant of their choice.
- Pickleball Gear: Donors who give between Sept. 21 and Sept. 30, 2026, at official Red Cross blood donation centers and mention the word “pickleball” to staff will receive a custom Red Cross pickleball paddle and ball, while supplies last.

Eligibility Requirements
To donate, individuals must be in generally good health, weigh at least 110 pounds, and be at least 17 years old (or 16 with parental consent where permitted by law). Donors must bring a primary form of identification, such as a driver’s license or blood donor card, or two secondary forms of ID. Donors can expedite their visit on donation day by completing pre-donation health questionnaires online via Red Cross RapidPass.
