BLOOMINGTON — The Boys & Girls Clubs of Bloomington has officially inaugurated a new Shoe Pantry initiative, providing local children with access to brand-new, proper-fitting footwear when they need it most.
The community resource was launched through a partnership with Hurlow Wealth Management Group, Inc.—which selected the New Shoe Day program as its 2026 Charity of the Year—alongside support from regional community partners.

To mark the program’s official rollout, 50 Club Kids were provided with brand-new pairs of shoes.
“I can run fast in these!” one participant proudly exclaimed while trying on a new pair.
Organizers emphasized that providing proper footwear goes far beyond basic clothing needs. Having reliable, comfortable, and well-fitting shoes boosts a child’s self-esteem and ensures they can comfortably engage in sports, playground activities, and daily school routines alongside their peers.
Removing Barriers to Participation
The Shoe Pantry serves as an extension of the Boys & Girls Clubs of Bloomington’s ongoing mission to eliminate socioeconomic barriers that might hinder children from fully participating in academic, athletic, and after-school programs. Under the initiative, qualifying families can request and receive new shoes for their children at no cost.
“We are incredibly grateful to Hurlow Wealth Management for investing in this resource and to New Shoe Day for helping bring brand new shoes directly to children in our community,” the organization shared in a statement. “This partnership reflects what can happen when local organizations come together around a shared belief: every kid deserves the opportunity to show up, participate, and feel confident.”
How to Apply
Local families in need of footwear assistance for their children can submit an application directly through the Boys & Girls Clubs of Bloomington Shoe Pantry portal or by reaching out to administrative staff at their local club unit.
