BEDFORD — The Bedford Chamber of Commerce has announced an extension for the upcoming cohort of Leadership Lawrence County, giving local professionals, emerging leaders, and civic-minded residents additional time to apply.
The new deadline to submit applications is Monday, September 14, 2026.
Empowering Local Leaders Since 1986
First established in 1986, Leadership Lawrence County is a flagship professional development initiative designed to cultivate community leadership, broaden regional perspectives, and foster active civic engagement.
The nine-month program equips participants with a deeper understanding of the economic, governmental, and social dynamics driving Bedford and Lawrence County. Through interactive sessions, site visits, and direct conversations with key stakeholders, class members explore the opportunities and challenges facing the local region.
Curriculum & Program Structure
The program runs monthly from September through May, with full-day sessions typically held on one Friday per month. Each session focuses on a distinct sector vital to the community:
- Local & State Government: Gaining firsthand insight into municipal operations and visiting the Indiana Statehouse in Indianapolis to engage with state lawmakers.
- Economic & Small Business Development: Exploring regional industry, trade dynamics, and economic growth strategies.
- Tourism & Community Assets: Discovering local heritage, recreational destinations, and cultural attractions.
- Non-Profit & Philanthropy: Learning about community support organizations and strategies for non-profit leadership.
- Professional Development: Building foundational skills in team management, conflict resolution, and strategic planning.
Tuition & Registration Details
Participation in Leadership Lawrence County is open to anyone who lives or works in Lawrence County across the corporate, public, and non-profit sectors.

- Program Cost: $400 per participant (covers all curriculum materials, meals, and group transportation for official visits)
