ODON — Early childhood education in Daviess County received a boost this week as Our Community Foundation presented a $1,000 grant to North Daviess Community Schools to support kindergarten classrooms.
The funding stems from the Barbara Fish North Daviess Kindergarten Endowment Fund, created to assist teachers in acquiring classroom materials, hands-on learning tools, and enrichment resources for their students.
Honoring a Legacy in Education
The endowment was established by fund founder Barbara Fish—a longtime local educator—to continue her lifelong passion for supporting North Daviess students and teachers. By creating a dedicated endowment fund, the initiative provides a permanent source of support for early childhood educators across the district.
The annual grants distributed through the fund are designed to give kindergarten teachers additional flexibility when investing in classroom enhancements that spark curiosity and support foundational literacy and social skills.
Representatives from Our Community Foundation, school leaders, and members of the Fish family gathered at North Daviess Schools for the official check presentation.
Present during the grant ceremony were:
- Our Community Foundation Representatives: Travis Schaffer (President), Chris Jarrett (Executive Director), and Carol Nugent (Board Member)
- North Daviess Community Schools: Superintendent Jodi Berry and kindergarten teachers Emily Reynolds, Danielle Wagler, Brooke Archer, and Sherry Butcher
- Fish Family Members: Barbara Fish (Fund Founder), along with her daughters Kristi Fish and Mindy Orschell
