WASHINGTON — A Washington Community Schools resource officer remains hospitalized after suffering injuries in a Thursday afternoon collision between his motorcycle and a truck.
The accident occurred shortly after 3:23 p.m. at the intersection of State Road 57 and East Walnut Street. According to Daviess County dispatch records, Officer Mark Hudson was riding his motorcycle when it was struck by a truck.
First responders on scene immediately requested air medical transport due to the severity of the incident. Air Evac Lifeteam out of Evansville accepted the call and airlifted Hudson to a regional hospital for emergency treatment. Details regarding his current condition have not yet been released.
The Indiana State Police have assumed control of the crash investigation to determine the events leading up to the collision.
The driver of the pickup truck was identified as Michael Collins, 41, of Washington.
While speaking to Collins, Trooper Guzman observed visible signs of impairment. Collins was transported to Daviess Community Hospital in Washington for a chemical test. Collins was subsequently arrested and transported to the Daviess County Jail on a charge of operating a vehicle while intoxicated, causing serious bodily injury, a Level 5 felony.
Following the off-campus accident, Washington Intermediate School issued a message to families confirming Officer Hudson’s hospitalization. School officials expressed their support for the officer and encouraged all students, faculty, and staff to wear blue in a show of unity and solidarity for his recovery.
