SEYMOUR — A piece of local history is set to ring out across downtown Seymour once again this weekend as the Seymour Museum Center hosts a special restoration celebration for the historic Majestic Theatre Bell.
The ceremony will take place on Saturday at 6:00 p.m. at the Seymour Museum Center, located at 220 North Chestnut Street. The event highlights the successful restoration and rehanging of the historic bell earlier this month.
The Majestic Theatre originally opened its doors in downtown Seymour in 1890 as an opera house, serving as a cultural hub for regional entertainment during the late 19th and early 20th centuries. Over the decades, the venue transitioned into a traditional movie and performing arts theater, hosting countless local events, plays, and traveling acts.
Among its most notable historical moments, organizers highlight a performance by the famous Trapp Family Singers—the real-life Austrian musical family whose story inspired the iconic Broadway musical and film The Sound of Music.
After the theater ceased operations, the Majestic bell remained a downtown landmark for years before being removed for comprehensive restoration to repair environmental wear and preserve its structural integrity.
