BEDFORD — Altrusa of Bedford convened for its monthly meeting on August 10 at Central Church of Christ, with President Kathleen Row calling the meeting to order at 5:30 p.m.
During the business portion of the meeting, Sara Kern delivered the treasurer’s report, and Norma Hoffman distributed the minutes from the club’s July meeting.
Kelly Myers provided an update on the Avoca Little Free Library, noting that children’s books remain in high demand throughout the community.
In addition, Loretta Bailey reported taking 20 magazines to five local nursing homes to help keep residents engaged. Members concluded the evening by assembling gift bags for local 3- to 5-year-olds attending Head Start and Rising Stars. Each bag contained a brand-new book, a coloring book, and crayons. Altrusa members plan to read a story to the children when delivering the supplies, highlighting the organization’s ongoing commitment to encouraging early childhood literacy.
Community Aid and International Recognition
Members voted to approve a $400 donation to SPIN, designated to assist victims affected by the recent fires at Shawnee Apartments.
During the meeting, Loretta Bailey read thank-you notes received from Emeritus member Patty Kirkman as well as from Altrusa International. The international parent organization honored the Bedford Club with distinguished status and presented a commemorative pin for the club’s banner.
Mary Barnes also circulated a sign-up sheet for members interested in volunteering at the Lawrence County Museum.
