Free adult literacy tutoring available to Lawrence County residents through SOAR+ Program

BEDFORD — The Lawrence County Economic Growth Council is offering free, confidential one-on-one tutoring for local adults through its SOAR+ (Success and Opportunity at Reading – Plus Math, Financial and Digital Literacy) program.

Designed to help participants build self-reliance and daily confidence at their own pace, the initiative provides personalized instruction tailored to individual goals.

Key Support Services

  • Reading & Writing: Practical assistance with reading signs, completing job applications, understanding bills, and filling out medical or official forms.
  • Math & Numeracy: Foundational math skills for managing daily routines and calculations.
  • Financial Literacy: Practical guidance on money management and budgeting.
  • Digital Literacy: Hands-on instruction for using mobile phones, computers, online forms, and digital tools.

Volunteer Tutors Needed SOAR+ is actively recruiting community members to serve as volunteer tutors. Volunteers commit approximately two hours per week and receive full training, curriculum materials, and ongoing support. Tutors are matched with learners based on skills and schedule availability.
