INDIANA – Galanz Americas has issued a recall for approximately 121,680 Galanz Retro Refrigerators following reports that internal electrical components can short-circuit and ignite, posing severe fire and burn hazards. The recall was officially announced on July 30, 2026.
According to the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC), there have been 34 reported incidents of fires involving the recalled appliances. Local fire department reports indicate that at least one of these incidents resulted in a fatality.
The recall affects retro-style refrigerators with a 7.6 cubic-foot capacity, measuring roughly 58 inches high, 24 inches deep, and 21 inches wide. The units feature three adjustable glass shelves, a bottom drawer, and a top freezer compartment with its own separate door. They were sold in four colors: black, blue, red, and white.
Only units produced between December 2018 and December 2020 featuring one of the following five model numbers are included in the recall:
- BCD-215V-62H
- GLR76TRDER
- GLR76TBKER
- GLR76TBEER
- GLR76TWEER
To determine if a refrigerator is included, consumers can check the white tracking label located on the upper left-hand corner on the back of the unit. The label displays the “Galanz” brand name, the model number, and a date code in YYYYMM format (ranging from 201812 through 202012).
The affected units were sold nationwide at Home Depot stores and online at Amazon.com from January 2019 through September 2022, retailing for between $330 and $520.
Why Was This Product Recalled?
The recall was prompted by internal electrical failures that cause the components to short circuit, creating an ignition source inside the unit.
Because these popular retro-style appliances are frequently installed in kitchens, dorm rooms, garages, and home offices, an internal fire poses a heightened danger of quickly spreading to nearby walls, furniture, and building structures.

Consumers are urged to unplug the recalled refrigerators immediately and discontinue use.
