BLOOMINGTON – Indiana State Police Superintendent Anthony Scott has recently announced the promotion of Master Trooper/Detective Tim Cummins to Sergeant.
A 1989 graduate of Mooresville High School, newly promoted Sergeant Cummins started his law enforcement career with the Indiana University Police Department through the Cadet Program. Following his graduation from Indiana University, he served as a police officer with the Mooresville Police Department, where his duties included road patrol and juvenile officer. He worked closely with the Mooresville school system as a liaison officer.
He graduated from the 55th Indiana State Police Recruit Academy in 1997 and was assigned to the Lafayette Post. He transferred to the Putnamville Post and was assigned to the Drug Enforcement Section from 2007 to 2015. He transferred to the Bloomington Post when Morgan County was absorbed into the district from Putnamville. Following a temporary duty assignment in 2017, he was promoted in 2018 to the Bloomington District’s Investigations Unit.
During his career with the Indiana State Police, Sergeant Cummins conducted drug enforcement investigations, including marijuana eradication. He has investigated major crimes, including homicides and crimes against children. He has also served as a Tactical Flight Officer with ISP’s Aviation Section.
In his new role, Sergeant Cummins will serve as squad leader and supervisor for the Bloomington District’s assigned detectives. Alongside his investigative work, he has devoted significant time to community service, school safety initiatives, and youth mentorship through coaching and education programs. He has devoted his investigative career to protecting communities and bringing closure to crime victims and families.
