18-year-old killed; Three injured in two-vehicle crash south of Bloomington

MONROE COUNTY — An 18-year-old Campbellsburg man died, and three others were injured following a serious two-vehicle collision Monday night south of Bloomington.

Deputies with the Monroe County Sheriff’s Office responded at approximately 8:53 p.m. to the intersection of South Fairfax Road and East Dillman Road. Preliminary information from investigators indicates that the crash involved a Kia and a Subaru.

Three people were inside the Subaru at the time of the collision. The 18-year-old driver was transported to IU Health Bloomington Hospital, where medical staff pronounced him dead. Authorities have not yet released his name.

Both passengers in the Subaru sustained injuries during the crash. One passenger suffered severe injuries and was airlifted to IU Health Methodist Hospital in Indianapolis. To assist emergency responders, the nearby Bloomington Speedway served as a temporary landing zone for the medical helicopter.

The driver and sole occupant of the Kia, identified as a 37-year-old Bloomington man, was also injured in the crash. Authorities have not released details regarding the severity of his condition.

The cause of the collision remains under investigation by the Monroe County Major Crash Investigation Team. Further details will be released as the investigation proceeds.
