MITCHELL — Bluegrass fans in Southern Indiana are in for a historic night of music as Nathan Stanley and his band, Constant Sorrow, take the stage at the historic Mitchell Opera House on Saturday, August 8, 2026.
The performance will celebrate Stanley’s deep musical heritage as the grandson of legendary bluegrass pioneer Dr. Ralph Stanley, delivering a night filled with classic country roots, gospel tradition, and iconic Clinch Mountain bluegrass sounds.
Born into Bluegrass Legacy
Born in 1992 in the hills of Southwestern Virginia, Nathan Edmond Stanley was steeped in traditional American music from birth. He made his stage debut at the Grand Ole Opry at just two years old, playing spoons alongside his grandfather and the famed Clinch Mountain Boys. By 2007, he stepped into the role of lead singer and rhythm guitarist for the group.
While honoring his grandfather’s sound, Stanley has built a distinct individual style, blending his bluegrass roots with elements of classic country influenced by legends like Elvis Presley and George Jones.
“If it’s been done, I don’t think I’ll do it that way,” Stanley says of his musical approach.
Accomplishments and Collaborations
Over a multi-decade performing career spanning national and international tours, Stanley has earned wide critical acclaim and industry awards:
- 2006: Performed for the Queen of England.
- 2011: Earned a #1 spot on the Inspirational Country Music charts with “White Dove” (featuring Vince Gill), and won Classic Country Album of the Year for My Kind of Country.
- 2014: Won a GMA Dove Award for “Bluegrass Album of the Year” for his project Every Mile.
- 2016: Named “Best Bluegrass Artist” at the ICM Awards in Nashville.
Stanley has collaborated with music icons including Brad Paisley, George Jones, Marty Stuart, Patty Loveless, Vince Gill, Ricky Skaggs, and Gene Watson. Looking ahead, he is set to release a new studio album featuring duets with Vince Gill and other country legends.

The performance will take place at the Mitchell Opera House, located at 217 N. 7th Street in Mitchell. Doors open at 6:15 p.m., with the concert starting at 7:00 p.m. All seating is available on a first-come, first-served basis.
