BEDFORD — Local author Robin Lee Compton has released his first book, Blood on the Badge, an account of his years-long effort to investigate the death of his brother, Mikel Lloyd Compton, and his belief that the case was improperly handled by authorities.
According to the book’s description, Compton contends that his brother’s death was incorrectly ruled a suicide after the scene was allegedly misrepresented and key evidence overlooked. Through the book, he chronicles more than eight years of personal research into death investigations while pursuing what he describes as an independent search for the truth.
Compton writes that his research included attending homicide investigation classes and seminars focused on suspicious death scene investigations at his own expense. He says those experiences helped shape his understanding of investigative procedures as he continued to question the official findings surrounding his brother’s death.
The book alleges that Compton repeatedly sought additional reviews of the case from local and state law enforcement agencies, calling for what he describes as an unbiased and thorough investigation. He also claims that his efforts were met with intimidation, harassment, threats of arrest, and restraining orders that he believes were unwarranted. He had become “the little brother they didn’t count on.”

According to the book, Compton believes he has been portrayed as a troubled family member unwilling to accept the official determination of his brother’s death. He maintains that inconsistencies in investigative reports, including coroner and autopsy findings, warrant further scrutiny.
Blood on the Badge also alleges that the local prosecutor has withheld critical evidence and points to a recorded 911 call made by Mikel Compton’s former girlfriend as raising additional questions about the circumstances surrounding his death.
The book presents Compton’s personal account and interpretation of the case and reflects his belief that his brother’s death has not been fully or accurately investigated. The allegations contained in the book represent Compton’s claims and have not been independently verified.
