INDIANAPOLIS — Officials at the Indiana State Fairgrounds have announced that rock legend Bret Michaels has canceled his upcoming performance at the Indiana State Fair. The “Every Rose Has Its Thorn” singer was scheduled to headline the Hoosier Lottery Free Stage, drawing thousands of fans to the historic fairgrounds on East 38th Street.

Michaels was originally scheduled to headline the Hoosier Lottery Free Stage on Wednesday, August 12, 2026. Fair officials confirmed that the show has now been pushed back to the 2027 Indiana State Fair season.
In a statement released on his official website, Michaels shared that he was instructed by medical professionals to rest and focus on recovery following surgery for a kidney stone.
While the sudden health setback forced the delay, officials confirmed that Michaels’ performance has been rescheduled rather than canceled entirely, ensuring his return to Indianapolis next summer.
Michaels’ postponement is part of a few recent updates to the 2026 Hoosier Lottery Free Stage schedule. Fair organizers also announced that The Beach Boys have postponed their opening night concert to 2027. Legendary Motown groups The Four Tops and The Spinners have been added to kick off the fair on Friday, August 7.
Indiana State Fair officials stated they will announce a replacement act for the open August 12 slot in the coming days.
The 2026 Indiana State Fair runs from August 7 through August 23 (closed on Mondays). All concerts on the Hoosier Lottery Free Stage are free with paid fair admission, with seating available on a first-come, first-served basis starting at 7:30 p.m. unless noted otherwise.
The Indiana State Fair, a tradition dating back to 1892 when it first opened at its current 38th Street location, has a long history of hosting international stars. While the specific reason for the cancellation has not been disclosed, fair representatives expressed their regret over the change.
“The Indiana State Fair is always a highlight of the summer for Hoosiers, and while we are disappointed that Bret Michaels will not be joining us this year, we are working diligently to secure a replacement act,” the Fair Board noted in a brief statement.
