Freeman Army Airfield Museum to host Annual Airplane Ride Day this Saturday

SEYMOUR Aviation enthusiasts and local history buffs will have the unique opportunity to view Jackson County from the clouds this weekend during the Freeman Army Airfield Museum’s annual Airplane Ride Day.

The community event is scheduled for Saturday, June 20, 2026, running from 9:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. at the museum grounds, located at 1035 A Avenue in Seymour.

For a tax-deductible donation of $30 per person, attendees can climb aboard a private aircraft for a scenic flight over the city of Seymour, guided by experienced pilots who donate their time and planes for the cause. For thrill-seekers looking for an extra rush, Robinson Aerobatics will be on-site, offering specialized rides in a massive, 500-horsepower biplane for an additional fee.

Back on the tarmac, visitors can explore a variety of static aircraft, a glider, and vintage military vehicles on display. Both of the museum’s main buildings will also be open to the public, offering free guided tours of local military history, while food trucks and drinks will be available on-site for purchase.

Organizers note that all proceeds raised from the event directly support the volunteer-run museum, funding the creation of new exhibits, maintenance of historical collections, and improvements to the visitor experience.

Because safety is the event’s top priority, organizers have put several strict guidelines in place for prospective passengers:

  • Weather Permitting: All flights are strictly contingent on favorable weather conditions and may be delayed or canceled in the event of high winds or heavy rain.
  • Age & Weight Restrictions: For safety reasons, no children under the age of 5 and no individuals weighing over 250 pounds will be permitted to participate in the flights.
  • Waiver Required: All riders must sign a standard liability waiver before taking off.

No advanced reservations or appointments are required to fly. Attendees are encouraged to arrive early and check in at the large white staging tent set up directly across the street from the museum buildings.
