Cresthaven Cemetery requests removal of Memorial Day ground displays by Friday

BEDFORD Management at Cresthaven Cemetery is asking community members and families to remove all ground-placed memorial items and decorations by the close of business on Friday, May 29, 2026.

The urgent request comes in the wake of recent heavy rainfall across Lawrence County, which has significantly accelerated grass growth and temporarily delayed routine ground maintenance. Removing decorations placed directly in the soil or grass is necessary to allow maintenance crews to safely mow and trim the cemetery grounds without damaging personal property or landscaping equipment.

To assist families in preserving their memorial displays, cemetery management has issued the following directives:

  • Items to Remove: Any artificial flowers, flags, wreaths, pinwheels, or sentimental tokens placed directly in or on the ground must be collected.
  • Items Allowed to Stay: All floral arrangements and decorations that are securely contained inside permanent monument vases may remain in place and will not be disturbed during mowing.

Cresthaven Cemetery staff expressed their gratitude to patrons for their prompt cooperation and understanding as they work to restore the beauty and neatness of the memorial park grounds following the holiday weekend.

Any items left on the ground past Friday’s deadline may be gathered and temporarily stored by groundskeeping staff to facilitate safe mowing operations. Families with specific questions regarding property guidelines can contact the main cemetery office directly.
