BEDFORD – Trinity Lutheran advanced to the sectional final with a 5-0 victory over Bedford North Lawrence during girls high school tennis action on Thursday.
The Cougars, who also conquered Brownstown 4-1 in Thursday’s earlier first-round clash, will meet Seymour in the championship. The Owls clipped Jennings County 3-2 in the other semifinal.
In singles, Presley Meyer topped BNL’s Emma Conover 6-4, 6-0 at No.1, Liza Vaughn defeated Elizabeth Miskuf 6-1, 6-3 at No.2, and Katie Malone rolled past Bailey Fisher 6-2, 6-1 at No.3.
Trinity’s Clara Rubin and Valerie McIntosh stopped Jada Key and Abi Bruner 6-1, 6-1 at No.1 doubles, while Taylor Cramer and Emily Keller swept past Claire Edwards and Emma Voris 6-0, 6-0 at No.2.
“We knew this was going to be a rebuilding year for us with such a young team, and while the record doesn’t show it, these girls grew a lot over the course of the season,” BNL coach Jennifer Edwards said. “Our record isn’t what we wanted, but the experience these girls gained is going to be huge moving forward. With so many young players, we’re really working on building up this program. I’m excited to see how this group continues to develop in the future.”
The Stars finished the season 0-15.
