
BROWNSTOWN – Bedford North Lawrence senior Tripp Stahl won two events during the IHSAA boys track sectional on Thursday.
Stahl powered his way to victories in the shot put and discus, while Luke Morris sailed to a win in the 300 low hurdles as the Stars finished third in the team competition with 119.5 points. Salem won the title (its first since 1953) with 136 while Seymour was second in the 10-team field with 126.
The top three in each event advanced to the regional at Bloomington North on May 28.
Stahl hurled the shot put 53-1 to take that event, and he fired the discus 155-4 for that blue ribbon. Morris clocked 40.17 en route to the title in the hurdles. Morris also finished second in the 110 high hurdles in 15.41.
Other regional qualifiers for the Stars included Ben Conner (third in the 400 in 52.98), Eli McFarland (third in the 3200 in 10:23.92) and Driven Axsom (third in the pole vault at 11-6).
BNL advanced two relays. In the 3200, Sam Strauser, Eli McFarland, Tate McFarland and Weston Holtz finished second in 8:35.73. In the 1600 relay, Saeben Arce, Axsom, Conner and Morris finished second in 3:37.44.
The top three in each event in the regional (which will also include qualifiers from sectionals at Columbus, Bloomington and Madison) will advance to the state finals at North Central in Indianapolis on June 6.
