INDIANA — Hoosiers looking to shake off the last of winter are invited to explore the great outdoors for free this coming Sunday. Indiana State Parks has announced that admission fees will be waived for all properties on Sunday, May 3, marking the second day of the agency’s “Welcome Weekend” festivities.

The annual event serves as the official kickoff to the outdoor recreation season, encouraging residents to rediscover the natural beauty found across the state’s diverse park system.
Whether you are a seasoned hiker or a first-time visitor, the Department of Natural Resources (DNR) is rolling out the red carpet with a variety of specialized programming.

“To longtime visitors and brand-new visitors alike, we warmly welcome everyone to the parks,” said Brandt Baughman, Director of Indiana State Parks. “Our parks offer beautiful natural getaways, camping under the stars, healthy outdoor activities, and delicious dining and restful lodging at our inns.”
No gate fees at all state parks and reservoirs on Sunday, May 3. Properties will host full moon hikes, scavenger hunts, cloud watching sessions, and educational nature programs.
Those unfamiliar with the park system can find helpful tips and “what to know before you go” guides at on.IN.gov/dnr-welcome.
To celebrate the fact that campgrounds are now fully operational with water service restored for the season, the DNR is offering significant discounts for those looking to extend their stay:
- Camping Discount: Save 25% on campground stays from Sunday through Wednesday until May 13. Use the promotional code SPRING26 when booking.
- Inn Special: Indiana State Park Inns are offering 25% off the best available rate for those booking two consecutive nights through May 21. Details are available at IndianaInns.com.
With the forest floor beginning to bloom and wildlife activity increasing, this weekend offers a prime opportunity to visit local favorites like Spring Mill, McCormick’s Creek, or Brown County State Park.
