Bedford Fire Department firefighters quickly extinguish late-night fire on Norton Lane

BEDFORD — Fire Chief Luke Pinnick reported today that the Bedford Fire Department (BFD) responded to a significant structure fire late Wednesday night, prompting a multi-hour operation and an ongoing state-level investigation.

The dispatch call was received at approximately 11:25 p.m., with BFD crews arriving on Norton Lane just four minutes later at 11:29 p.m. Upon arrival, firefighters were met with heavy smoke and intense fire conditions emanating from the structure

Through a coordinated attack, fire teams were able to bring the blaze under control within 30 minutes. Despite the quick containment, the severity of the fire required crews to remain on-site until 2:20 a.m. to conduct overhaul operations and ensure all “hot spots” were fully extinguished.

“Our crews encountered heavy fire and smoke immediately upon arrival,” said Chief Luke Pinnick. “Their quick actions allowed us to bring the situation under control quickly, though we remained on scene for several hours to ensure the area was safe.”

The origin and cause of the fire have not yet been determined. Per standard protocol for significant fires, the State Fire Marshal’s Office has been called in to lead the investigation.

No injuries were reported.
