SHIPSHEWANA — Shipshewana will host the leading travel writer organization in the US, the Society of American Travel Writer’s Central States Chapter (SATW). The prestigious event, happening April 28 – May 1, will bring writers from throughout the United States including Texas, Oklahoma, and Louisiana to LaGrange County as part of its 2026 Central States Chapter.
“Being selected as the host for the SATW convention in 2026 reflects our commitment to marketing Shipshewana as a unique and worthwhile destination,” said Sonya Nash, CEO of the LCCVB. “Writers will find a treasure trove of stories in Shipshewana and LaGrange County, from charming locals and rich cultural experiences to thrilling entertainment. Sharing what the region has to offer will engage audiences and highlight why millions visit each year.”

Shipshewana was selected from among a dozen US destinations to host the SATW convention. The convention will allow writers to experience Shipshewana and the surrounding region, capturing what makes it a worthwhile destination for travelers. They’ll taste local cuisine, tour multi-generational family-owned businesses, and discover Amish culture, all while boosting the tourism economy and visitor impact of LaGrange County.
“We are thrilled to bring the Society of American Travel Writers’ Central States Chapter to LaGrange County and Shipshewana,” commented Jill Robbins, Society of American Travel Writers Central States Chapter chair. “We’re excited to dig into the culture, food scene, and outdoor opportunities in LaGrange County and help tell the stories of the people who live, work, and play here.”
The Blue Gate Garden Inn & Conference Center is the host event center for SATW. Members will visit the Blue Gate Performing Arts Center, Menno-Hof, paddle the Pigeon River with Mongo Trading Post, and many more attractions in the region.
“It’s a wonderful opportunity to showcase what makes our destination so unique, and we look forward to sharing the stories, landscapes, and experiences that set us apart as a premier travel destination,” remarked Andrew Rohrer, vice president of sales and marketing at The Blue Gate.
The Central States Chapter has previously held events in Shreveport, LA, El Paso, TX, and Mackinac Island, MI. Past Society-level conventions have been held in San Juan Puerto Rico, Bogotá Colombia, and Milwaukee.
