Mitchell School Board sets executive session for real estate strategy and legal counsel

MITCHELL The Mitchell Community Schools Board of Trustees will hold an executive session on Thursday, March 26, 2026, to discuss potential property acquisitions and consult with legal counsel.

The meeting will take place at the Mitchell Community Schools Administration Center, located at 441 North 8th Street, immediately following a 5:00 p.m. special session.

Board President Krystal Shetler announced that the private session will focus on two primary objectives under Indiana’s Open Door Law:

  1. Real Estate Strategy: Discussion regarding the strategic purchase or lease of real property by the school corporation, as permitted by Indiana Code § 5-14-1.5-6.1(b)(2)(D).
  2. Attorney-Client Privilege: Private communications with the school’s legal counsel, authorized under Indiana Code § 5-14-1.5-6.1(b)(19).

While the specific properties under consideration have not been disclosed, the session follows a period of active facility planning for the district. Under the leadership of Superintendent Todd Tanksley, who took the helm in early 2025, the corporation has focused on long-term capital improvements and maintaining local infrastructure.

As an executive session, the meeting is closed to the public. However, state law requires that any formal action or final vote on these matters must be taken during a public meeting.
