Beyond the Label: Autism Rocks and Rolls Announces 5th Annual Gala in Bloomington

BLOOMINGTON For the past five years, the Autism Rocks and Rolls Corporation has been on a mission to flip the script on neurodiversity, replacing outdated “pity” with genuine empowerment. That mission reaches a major milestone this spring as the organization hosts its 5th Annual Gala: “Beyond the Label.”

The celebration is set for April 18, 2026, from 1:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. at the Moose Lodge, 840 South Cory Lane, in Bloomington. The event promises an afternoon of storytelling and community connection designed to highlight the immense talents of those on the autism spectrum.

Motivational speaker and podcaster Sam Mitchell

Founded by motivational speaker and podcaster Sam Mitchell, Autism Rocks and Rolls has grown from a local advocacy project into a thriving 501(c)(3) nonprofit. Mitchell, who was diagnosed with autism at age four, started the organization to show the world that a diagnosis is not a limitation.

The “Beyond the Label” theme reflects the organization’s core philosophy: that individuals are more than a medical category. The event will focus on:

  • Impact Stories: Real-world examples of how inclusion transforms lives.
  • Empowerment: Celebrating the unique “superpowers” of neurodivergent individuals.
  • Stigma Reduction: Challenging societal assumptions and fostering true acceptance.

The organization’s work has caught the attention of some of the biggest names in the field. Renowned advocate and professor Dr. Temple Grandin has praised the movement, noting that “Autism Rocks and Rolls shows the positive side of autism.”

Professor Dr. Temple Grandin

Grandin, a previous keynote speaker for the organization, continues to support Mitchell’s goal of showcasing the successes of all people, regardless of their perceived functioning level.

The gala is a community-wide event, welcoming families, educators, and local supporters.

  • Date: Saturday, April 18, 2026
  • Time:
  • Volunteer Opportunities: Organizers are currently seeking volunteers for setup (starting at 11 a.m.), event support, and cleanup.
