DAVIESS COUNTY – Aspiring community leaders have a unique opportunity to sharpen their skills and deepen their local impact as applications are now officially open for the Leadership Daviess County 2026 cohort.

The program, facilitated by Purdue Extension, is designed to identify and develop the next generation of leaders within the county. Interested residents and professionals have until March 1 to submit their applications.
Participants in the 2026 cohort will engage in a series of sessions that explore the vital pillars of a thriving community. The research-based curriculum provides a deep dive into several key areas:
- Local Governance: Understanding the mechanics of county and city government.
- Economic Drivers: Exploring local economic development and workforce trends.
- Essential Services: Examining community health, education systems, and overall quality of place.
Beyond community knowledge, the program emphasizes practical skill-building in communication, conflict management, and the nuances of board service, preparing graduates to serve effectively on local nonprofit and government committees.
In an exciting addition to this year’s recruitment cycle, individuals who apply or express a formal interest in the program by this week are invited to a special visit to the Indiana Statehouse on Thursday, February 19.
This “behind-the-scenes” trip offers a rare look at the legislative process in action. The itinerary includes:
- Guided Statehouse Tour: A walkthrough of Indiana’s historic seat of government.
- Legislator Meetings: Direct engagement and Q&A sessions with State Senator Eric Bassler and State Representative Shane Lindauer.
“The Statehouse visit offers a rare opportunity for local leaders to observe the legislative process firsthand and learn directly from state officials,” noted program organizers.
Individuals interested in the 2026 Leadership Daviess County cohort or the upcoming Statehouse visit should reach out to Purdue Extension Daviess County.
