BEDFORD — North Lawrence Community Schools marked National Special Education Awareness Day today by releasing a district-wide message honoring students, families, and educators within the special education community.
The observance coincides with the anniversary of the Individuals with Disabilities Education Act (IDEA), landmark legislation guaranteeing students with disabilities access to a free and appropriate public education. NLCS leaders used the occasion to reaffirm the district’s commitment to inclusion and to celebrate the progress made in supporting diverse learners.

“NLCS Community,
Today, we recognize the anniversary of the Individuals with Disabilities Education Act (IDEA) and celebrate the progress made in ensuring that all students have access to a free and appropriate public education.
We honor the incredible students, families, educators, and support staff who make up the special education community. Your dedication, advocacy, and commitment to inclusion help create schools where every learner is seen, supported, and empowered to succeed.
Let’s continue working together to build a future where all students have the opportunities and support they deserve!”
National Special Education Awareness Day is observed annually on December 2.
