BLOOMINGTON — A new way to make a difference is coming this holiday season.
The public is invited to celebrate the launch of the Bloomington Light the World Giving Machine at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, November 22, in Fountain Square Mall, located at 101 West Kirkwood Avenue.

The Light the World Giving Machine is part of a global initiative sponsored by The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints that invites people to celebrate the Christmas season by following Christ’s invitation to “love thy neighbor.”

Instead of buying a snack or drink, visitors to the Giving Machine can purchase essential items for individuals and families in need — both locally and globally. Items range from $3 to $200, including groceries for a struggling family, warm clothing for a child, a pig or goat for a family overseas, or job training for someone seeking a new start.
The Church covers all costs, so 100% of every donation goes directly to the selected charities.
The public event will feature remarks from Bloomington Mayor Kerry Thomson, State Representative Dave Hall, State Senator Shelly Yoder, and State Treasurer Daniel Elliott, as well as musical performances and photo opportunities.
“We’re thrilled to bring this global tradition to Bloomington,” said Byron Mauss, Giving Machine City Lead. “The Giving Machine makes generosity simple and joyful — each gift directly blesses a person in need.”
This year’s local beneficiaries include:
- Hoosier Hills Food Bank
- Make-A-Wish Foundation
- HATCH for Hunger
- Dove Recovery House for Women
- Brightlane Learning
Global beneficiaries include:
- Lifting Hands International
- Right to Play
Since the first machines launched in 2017, donors worldwide have contributed more than $50 million in life-changing goods and services.
